Partnership E-Update
September 2005
Dear Friends, We are truly
saddened by the aftermath of hurricane Katrina. There are hundreds of people now
participating in the Partnership. We ask that you please keep the gulf coast
region in your prayers and find ways to give generously to those in need.
Together, we can make a difference.
For the Kingdom,
Hank, Mike, John and the Boston Partnership Team
Less Than 1 Month 'til the
Move! Good Friends
at the Tea Party
On August
14th, over 100 people came out for our Tea Party and Commitment Celebration at
Community Christian's West Campus in Montgomery, IL. We ate Boston Creme Pie,
sipped tea, and celebrated the pledges people made to the Partnership. We
received commitments for $172,000 over the next five years. We were incredibly
blessed by the generosity of friends and family. We thank all of you who were
there to make the evening very special.
So where are
we with fundraising? Well, let's just say we still have long way to go. We've
raised about one third of what we need for the long haul. Hank, Mike, and John
are hoping to raise another $150,000 in monthly commitments before we make the
move in October. Once in Boston, we hope to spend less time fundraising so we
can invest our time establishing relationships, serving the community, building
our core team and securing facilities. We're looking for family members,
business men and women, small groups, churches, and friends (we're not picky) to
partner with us financially. Many are still praying about how they can
participate. We trust that God will move people to invest in the Partnership so
that the people of Boston may come to know Christ in a real and personal way.
(And we would be okay if He moved everyone sooner than later.)
The
Movement Introducing
Julie Wilson
Each new
person or organization to join the Partnership brings unique gifts and passions.
We want to introduce you to Julie Wilson, Hank's wife and mother of four. Anyone
that knows her can tell you she exemplifies the old adage that "behind every
good man is a great woman."
When Hank
first said, "What do you think about planting a church in Boston?" what was your
reaction?
My initial
reaction was complete surprise, but I was just not aware of the need for Christ
in Boston. That has since changed to excitement and I'm very motivated to help
start the new church. I really do feel like God has led us to Boston, and is
going to use us to impact the hearts of people for Him.
What gets
you excited when you think about starting a church in Boston?
For me its
knowing that we have the potential to reach so many people. My faith continues
to be stretched, as things sometimes do not work out the way I think they are
going to. I have had to be more patient and willing to let go of my own
personal, selfish desires, and trust that God knows what is best for my family.
He continues to show me that He is guiding us and helping us, I just have to
continue to surrender everything to Him.
What do
your kids think of all this?
Our children
are very excited about moving to Boston. Alex and Trey have been to visit the
city and really had a great time. Although, I'm not sure how much Trey gets it.
He just said the other day, "When daddy's done planting a new church, can he go
work for Michael Jordan?".
Pray it
up...
Introducing
Michael Thomas Brown II..."Miles" for short. He was born on August 13, weighing
in at 6 pounds and 1 oz. We thank God for the newest addition to our church. (We
take very seriously God's command to multiply and fill the earth.) Nice job Mike
and Karen! Here are some other ways you can pray for us this month:
- Pray for friend and teammate Phil McArdle who moved to Boston this month as
he transitions to his new job!
- For Hank's housing trip this week!
- Thank God that we've been blessed by people's generosity and support.
- Pray that more folks and churches will come along side of us as we raise
another $150,000.
- Thank God for baby Miles.
Like a
warrior's fistful of arrows are the children of a vigorous youth. Oh, how
blessed are you parents, with your quivers full of children!-Psalm 127:
